2 Aruban Short Films with international screenings.
E PESO DI MUNDO (The Weight of the World) and ADRIFT WAK leu will have their European premiere at the Dutch Film Festival, September 28.
Last week 2 Aruban short films, E PESO DI MUNDO by award-winning director Juan Francisco Pardo and ADRIFT WAK LEU by debutant director Velvet Zoé Ramos were screened during the 6th edition of the Playa Film Festival here in Aruba to sold out theaters,
For E PESO DI MUNDO this was its world premiere, ADRIFT WAK LEU had already been screened during the Curaçao International Film Festival last April, and had its International premiere here in Aruba.
STUDIO CARIBE
This month, on September 28 both films will screen during the Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht, together with 3 other short films from Curaçao which have been primarily financed through the Studio Caribe scheme of the Dutch Film Fund.
The Studio Caribe Scheme set out give the Dutch Caribbean film industry a push towards more professional volume. For the 12 projects chosen to enter into development, not only money was made available, but also workshops and active coaching. All project could submit applications for production funding to actually realize the films, and of the twelve, 6 were selected to go into production.
E PESO DI MUNDO was realized with co-financing of Het Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied, and ADRIFT WAK LEU found additional funding through Subway Aruba.
FESTIVALS
Of the Studio Caribe FIlms, ADRIFT WAK LEU and MANE HOMBU by director Ango lourens from Curaçao had their world premiere during the Curaçao International Film Festival in April 2026. Those two together with E PESO DI MUNDO were screened at the Playa Film Festival late August, and end of September the animation ALA by Stephanie van Heijningen and the short film PÈRDÍ by Ryan QD Navarro (both also from Curaçao) will be shown together during the prestigious Dutch Film Festival.
ADRIFT WAK LEU will also be screened during the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival (September 23-27), and in October during the Conch Shell International Film Festival in New York.
