De ministerraad heeft op voordracht van staatssecretaris Van Huffelen van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties (BZK) ingestemd met de benoeming van de heer Edson Hato als nieuwe Vertegenwoordiger van Nederland in Aruba, Curaçao en St. Maarten. De heer Hato start per 7 september met zijn werkzaamheden.

Edson Hato (53) heeft ruime ervaring bij het aansturen van veranderprocessen en leiderschapsontwikkeling bij grote multinationals, tech scale-ups en sociale ondernemingen. Hato heeft geadviseerd aan en gewerkt voor o.a. Carlsberg Group, SAP, ABN AMRO Bank, ING Group en AstraZeneca. Hato is sinds 2017 oprichter en eigenaar van LikeMinds B.V., een adviesbureau voor coaching van leidinggevenden, organisatieontwikkeling en bedrijfstransformatie. Hij is opgegroeid op Curaçao en heeft kennis van de taal en cultuur in het Caribisch gebied. 

De functie van Vertegenwoordiger is cruciaal voor een goede relatie tussen Nederland, Aruba, Curaçao en St. Maarten. Staatssecretaris Van Huffelen is verheugd met de benoeming: “Edson Hato is een bevlogen professional die een schat aan internationale ervaring meebrengt. Ik verwacht dat hij met zijn visie op samenwerking een belangrijke bruggenbouwer wordt die geografische en culturele verschillen kan overbruggen. We hechten aan een goede samenwerking met Curaçao, Aruba en St. Maarten. Ik ben blij dat we voor deze post een kandidaat hebben gevonden die beide kanten van de oceaan goed kent.”

Edson Hato gaat voor duurzame resultaten en ziet voor zichzelf een belangrijke rol weggelegd als het gaat om een toekomstbestendige samenwerking in het Koninkrijk: ”Ik ben er trots op dat ik als Nederlandse vertegenwoordiger de relatie tussen Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten en Nederland, verder kan helpen versterken. Daarbij herken ik mijzelf volledig in de uitgangspunten waarop deze samenwerking is gebaseerd: eigenaarschap, gelijkwaardigheid en gemeenschappelijkheid. Dit zijn wat mij betreft ook de leidende beginselen bij verandering. Om te weten waar je heen wilt, is het belangrijk je bewust te zijn van waar je vandaan komt. Door mijn achtergrond en ervaring weet ik dat we gebruik moeten maken van de kracht van de verschillen, om elkaar in het Koninkrijk te versterken. Alleen zo kom je tot nieuwe, inspirerende oplossingen waar mensen zich blijvend voor willen inzetten.”

Vertegenwoordiging van Nederland in Aruba, Curaçao en St. Maarten (VNACS)

De VNACS treedt op als Nederlandse vertegenwoordiger en draagt bij aan een goede relatie tussen Nederland, Aruba, Curaçao en St. Maarten (de landen). De Vertegenwoordiging, met vestigingen in Willemstad (VNW), Oranjestad (VNO) en Philipsburg (VNP), werkt aan de totstandkoming van Nederlands beleid voor de Landen. Tevens licht de VNACS  het beleid toe, informeert belanghebbenden en draagt bij aan de uitvoering. Ook biedt de VNACS hulp en bijstand voor Nederlanders in nood en coördineert het de aansturing van de hulpverlening uit Nederland bij grote crises. De Vertegenwoordiging voert haar taken uit in nauwe samenwerking met alle vier de landen in het Koninkrijk.

Edson Hato new Representative of the Netherlands in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten

Following the nomination of State Secretary Van Huffelen of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), the Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of Mr. Edson Hato as the new Representative of the Netherlands in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Mr. Hato will start his duties on the 7th of September.

Edson Hato (53) has extensive experience in driving change processes and leadership development at large multinationals, tech scale-ups and social enterprises. Hato has advised to and worked for Carlsberg Group, SAP, ABN AMRO Bank, ING Group and AstraZeneca, among others. Since 2017, Hato has been founder and owner of LikeMinds B.V., a consulting firm for executive coaching, organisational development and business transformation. He grew up in Curaçao and has knowledge of the Caribbean language and culture. 

The position of Representative is crucial for a good relationship between the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. State Secretary Van Huffelen is pleased with the appointment: “Edson Hato is an inspired professional who brings with him a wealth of international experience. With his vision on cooperation, I expect him to become an important bridge-builder who can bridge geographical and cultural differences. We value good cooperation with Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. I am pleased that we have found a candidate for this post who knows both sides of the ocean well.”

Edson Hato goes for sustainable results and sees an important role for himself when it comes to future-proof cooperation in the Kingdom: “As a Dutch representative, I am proud to help further strengthen the relationship between Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands. In doing so, I fully recognise myself in the principles on which this cooperation is based: ownership, equality and commonality. As far as I am concerned, these are also the guiding principles in change. To know where you want to go, it is important to be aware of where you came from. Because of my background and experience, I know that we must use the power of differences to strengthen each other in the Kingdom. Only then will you arrive at new, inspiring solutions that people will want to commit to permanently.”

Representation of the Netherlands in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten (VNACS)

The VNACS performs as de Dutch representative and contributes to a good relationship between the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten (the countries). The Representation, with offices in Willemstad (VNW), Oranjestad (VNO) and Philipsburg (VNP), works to create Dutch policy for the Countries. Also, the VNACS explains policy, informs stakeholders and contributes to implementation. The VNACS also provides aid and assistance to Dutch nationals in need and coordinates the management of assistance from the Netherlands in major crises. The Representation carries out its tasks in close cooperation with all four countries in the Kingdom.
